Objective of these sessions
One of the biggest challenges in providing impactful professional learning is to build in opportunities for learners to practise and integrate new learning in their environment. Trying on new skills is often anxiety-producing and messy. Furthermore, as adult learners not very comfortable with “not knowing,” we are often in a hurry to become confident and competent at the expense of meaningfully integrating new learning. These additional sessions are thus designed to support the graduates in truly integrating the mentor-coaching skills into their daily practice.
Who these sessions are for
These group sessions are designed to support graduates of the Mentor-Coaching Institute’s 4-day Interactive Program and graduates of the Foundational Coaching Skills Program. Participants can be grouped as existing team or interested individuals from different districts.
What these sessions provide
These sessions provide participants with further opportunities to practice with the support of an ‘expert’, thus continuing to integrate and sustain the mentor-coaching skills, attitudes and behaviours that are essential for supporting capacity building.
“The mentor-coaching model has supported our work as learning partners by helping us refine the skills and the mindset critical to working collaboratively with others. By taking the stance of a learner and listener, we are hoping to thereby create a safe environment for learning and risk taking to take place. It is more than a strategy that is used. It is a stance that we try to genuinely live in.”
